Hi Everyone, Welcome back to the Debate Season!!!!  

 

1.  High School Public Forum Tournament #1 has been rescheduled to October 12th!  Thank you to Beacon for hosting! The Policy Tournament remains the same day as October 26th at Leon Goldstein HS.  You can register on www.tabroom.com by the end of the week for both tournaments!

3.  Student Workshop #2 (September 28th, 12pm-3pm, NYC Debate Office)

6.  Debate Curriculum for the New Season is now posted!!!!  The National Association of Urban Debate Leagues has rolled out the most comprehensive debate curriculum in the nation with a year's worth of standard based lesson plans, coaches forum, help line and more!

 

7.  PUBLIC FORUM DEBATE TOPICS! The first two High School Public Forum Tournaments have a topic for Beginners/Novice Division and the other topic is for Varsity/Junior Varsity Division. After Tournament #1 and Tournament #2 we are back on the National Speech and Debate Topic!!! Full lesson plans and handbooks are available for both topics! 

 

Beginners and Novice Divisions (both High School and Middle School) will have a "Starters Topic" that will repeat each year with a growing set of curricula materials. The Topic is "The United States should end the death penalty." 

  • Tournament #1 (October) - The United States should end the death penalty. 
  • Tournament #2 (November) - The United States should end the death penalty. 
  • Tournament #3 (December) - November/December NSDA Topic. Cybersecurity Topic Area (topic announced on October 1st)
  • Tournament #4 (January) - November/December NSDA Topic. Cybersecurity Topic Area (topic announced on October 1st)
  • Tournament #5 (February) - February NSDA Topic
  • Tournament #6 (March - City Championships) - February NSDA Topic
  • State Debate Championships Invitational (April) - NSDA June National Championships Topic

 

Varsity/Advanced and Junior Varsity/Intermediate Divisions (both High School and Middle School) will continue to follow the National Speech & Debate Association's Topic. Click here to go to the National Speech & Debate Association's Website to view the latest public forum debate topic. The website lists all debate topics. Scroll down until you see "Public Forum Debate" and double check the month to make sure it is the month's topic. 

  • Tournament #1 (October) - Sep/Oct NSDA Topic - Resolved: The European Union should join the Belt and Road Initiative.
  • Tournament #2 (November) - Sep/Oct NSDA Topic -Resolved: The European Union should join the Belt and Road Initiative.
  • Tournament #3 (December) - November/December NSDA Topic - Cybersecurity Topic Area (topic announced on October 1st)
  • Tournament #4 (January) - November/December NSDA Topic - Cybersecurity Topic Area (topic announced on October 1st)
  • Tournament #5 (February) - February NSDA Topic - announced by NSDA on 
  • Tournament #6 (March - City Championships) - February NSDA Topic
